what is 'artist together'
Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander artists bring strong cultural knowledge, creativity and storytelling to their practice, yet many face structural barriers to building sustainable creative careers. These can include limited access to culturally safe mentoring, professional networks, exhibitions, commissions, licensing opportunities and practical business support.
Artists Together responds by connecting artists with guidance, industry experience and genuine opportunities to develop, present and earn from their work. The program also supports fair payment, appropriate attribution and the protection of Indigenous Cultural and Intellectual Property, allowing artists to pursue professional opportunities while maintaining ownership and cultural authority.

Who we Support
Artists Together supports invited Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander artists seeking to strengthen their creative practice and access professional opportunities.
Participation is by invitation only, allowing Malang to provide tailored, culturally safe support that reflects each artist’s goals, development needs and readiness for available projects and opportunities.

Describe you art practise?
"My art practice derives from the value of life and connection. My choice of colours and blending speak a story within themselves. I like to share stories of everlasting connection and movement between life, mob and country".

What support or opportunities you have received through Malang?
"I have received the opportunity to learn the practical skills behind art making and the industry, including the financial, business side. I have been fortunate to showcase my work in numerous exhibitions throughout the Hunter, showcasing my work, and through this learning the process of curating and setting up artworks. I also sing in Gathang language throughout the Hunter Community. Malang has given me opportunities to sing for communities in the art space, building my voice and also connection. The biggest support for me as an emerging young artist has been assisting me in discovering my unique art style".

"This support has helped me creatively in developing my practice and encouraging me to try new mediums and extending my work. Such as traditional Art styles, using natural mediums.".​

Describe you art practise?
"My creative practice combines photography, drawing and digital art, with my main practice being digital design using Adobe Illustrator. I enjoy spending time out on Country, where I can connect with the landscape and find inspiration for my work. Photography allows me to capture places, natural environments, colours and details that interest and inspire me. I also explore ideas through drawing and sketching before developing them further digitally in Adobe Illustrator.".

What support or opportunities you have received through Malang?
" I have been fortunate enough to be a part of the artists together program that Malang ran in 2025
Where I was involved in some opportunities like the Malang Newcastle University Exhibition, the Hunter wetlands Exhibition, which Malang takes part in bi - yearly. AIATSIS (Australian Institute of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Studies) Indigenous art market. In which I sold two of my prints: Men’s Business 600 x 600 mm & Kalingbah - Place of Water 1000 x 500 mm, purchased by AIATSIS CEO in 2025.
Contributed to a collaborative project with Saretta Fielding and another Malang artist, where we were commissioned to paint a large original artwork, which is currently displayed in the entry of Stockland’s head office in the CBD Sydney. I Designed the Macquaire Toronto Scorpions indigenous round jerseys, two years in a row, 2025 and 2026 with the partnership and mentoring of Malang Indigenous corporation on both Occasions".

"Malang’s support has helped me professionally, creatively and financially by giving me opportunities to develop my skills as an artist and share my work with a wider audience. Through the Artists Together program, I have had opportunities to exhibit and sell my artwork, including at the AIATSIS Indigenous Art Market, where I sold two of my prints to the AIATSIS CEO. These opportunities have helped me gain more confidence in presenting and selling my work professionally.
Creatively, Malang has given me opportunities to work alongside and learn from other artists, including collaborating with Saretta and another Malang artist on a large commissioned original artwork for the Stockland office in Sydney. Malang has also supported and mentored me in designing the Macquarie Toronto Scorpions Indigenous Round jerseys in both 2025 and 2026. These experiences have helped me grow as an artist, build my professional portfolio, develop my skills and create opportunities to earn income through my artwork and designs".​

Describe you art practise?
"My art practice is a combination of painting and weaving, drawing inspiration from Country, culture, nature, family and storytelling. I enjoy working with native plants, gum leaves, waterways and natural elements, as well as Aboriginal symbols and patterns.
My work is often colourful and expressive, and I enjoy bringing together traditional influences with my own contemporary style. Painting and weaving give me a way to connect with culture, explore my creativity and share stories and experiences through art."
What support or opportunities you have received through Malang?
"Being involved with Malang has given me opportunities to develop my skills and confidence as an emerging Indigenous artist. Through the program, I have been able to meet and connect with other artists, participate in creative opportunities and exhibitions, and learn more about working professionally within the arts sector. Malang has also given me encouragement to keep developing my own style and to recognise that my artwork, culture and stories have a place within the professional art world.

"The support from Malang has helped me both creatively and professionally. It has given me opportunities to experiment with different ideas and materials, build my confidence, showcase my artwork and gain experience in exhibiting and presenting my work.
Most importantly, it has encouraged me to continue growing as an artist and to believe in the value of my own creative practice. The connections and opportunities through Malang have helped me see possibilities for my artwork beyond simply creating for myself and my family".
